NBA Player Challenges Michelle Obama To Go Vegan

NBA champ and vegan advocate John Salley is urging Michelle Obama to take PETA’s 30-day vegan pledge in the new year.

NBA champ and vegan advocate John Salley is urging Michelle Obama to take PETA’s 30-day vegan pledge in the new year.
In a letter to FLOTUS, the four-time NBA champion writes: “Vegan eating is not just a slam dunk for human health; it’s also the most effective way to combat climate change.”
“I urge you to set an example for families all across the country by committing to going vegan for 30 days in 2016. By taking the pledge during your final year serving as First Lady, you will send a clear message to Americans that going vegan is one of the best things a person can do for their health, for animals, and for the environment.”
Salley, who’s been a vegan since 2008, credits his plant-based diet for giving him “the energy and stamina to help carry my teams to four NBA championship wins.” He’s also lobbied Congress to include more healthy vegetarian options in school lunches to help combat childhood diabetes and other diet-related diseases — a cause that, as creator of the Let’s Move initiative, is close to the First Lady’s heart.
We agree with Salley that by taking the vegan challenge, Obama would set a great example to Americans that, as he says, by “going vegan is one of the best things a person can do for their health, for animals, and for the environment.”
Plus, January is a perfect time to establish new goals and habits, and with Veganuaryaround the corner, now is the ideal time to try vegan — whether your address is the White House or not.
We hope FLOTUS accepts Salley’s challenge! Who knows — she could go the way ofCory Booker and become more of a permanent plant eater!
