Nestlé is being sued for child slaves on cocoa plantations

Ivory Coast produces 40% of world production of cocoa. Unfortunately, most often unknowingly consume a product of unpaid child labor.
The largest food industry in the world, Nestlé is sued for allegedly using child slaves harvesting cocoa in Ivory Coast of Africa.
US Supreme Court rejected the appeal Nestle's and two other enterprises in December 2014 according to Reuters agency.
Three children-witnesses filed a suit in 2005 as they had been trafficked. They had been transferred from Mali to Ivory Coast and forced to work in the harvest of cocoa without pay.
In their testimony, they said they worked for 14 hours a day and they suffered physical abuse and torture. They were kept locked in rooms when not working and fed with food residues. One applicant even states that any child trying to escape was caused brutal injuries at the legs.
In 2010, Nestlé stopped a US Congress bill on the production of products with cocoa. The bill stipulated that all products had to be specially signed that would guarantee they do not come from child labor.
